Bezuidenhout victory keeps Corsa dei Gemelli firmly in Investchem MSA4 title fight

Corsa dei Gemelli left Zwartkops Raceway with another important victory in the 2026 Investchem MSA4 Championship, as Round 3 of South Africa’s premier single-seater series delivered another fiercely contested weekend at the tight and technical Pretoria circuit.

With the championship battle beginning to intensify, Mikel Bezuidenhout once again spearheaded the team’s charge. The Johannesburg teenager arrived at Zwartkops carrying a five-point deficit in the standings and focused on cutting into the gap at the top of the championship. Team-mate Wianko Fourie, meanwhile, continued his rookie campaign with the clear objective of breaking into the championship points for the first time.

Saturday qualifying immediately underlined Bezuidenhout’s pace, with the Corsa dei Gemelli driver securing second on the grid despite suffering a gearbox gremlin. Crucially, he placed himself ahead of his main championship rival. Fourie lined up tenth as he continued to build confidence in the national single-seater field.

When the lights went out for the opening race, Bezuidenhout made a superb start, launching himself into the lead and taking control of the early stages. Around Zwartkops, where track position is often critical, the CDG driver looked composed out front as he managed the pace and pressure behind him. However, midway through the race, his championship rival found a way through, leaving Bezuidenhout to consolidate second place and bank another valuable haul of points.

For Fourie, Race 1 proved far more challenging. The rookie was unable to replicate his team-mate’s success and was caught out when the safety car appeared, running wide and off circuit and dropping to the back of the field. From there, he had little opportunity to recover positions around a circuit where overtaking can be difficult, eventually taking the chequered flag at the rear of the pack.

Race 2, however, brought the response the team was looking for. Starting third, Bezuidenhout again reacted sharply off the line and wasted no time in moving into the lead. This time, there would be no way back for those behind him. Despite another safety-car deployment that bundled everyone together again, Bezsuidenhout showed maturity, control, and race-winning composure. He held firm at the front across the ten-lap encounter to claim his third victory of the season and ensure Corsa dei Gemelli remained firmly in the title conversation.

“It was a strong weekend overall, and to come away with another win is exactly what we needed,” said Bezuidenhout. “Race 1 was a bit frustrating because I had the lead and really wanted to convert it, but the pace was good, and we knew we had another opportunity in Race 2. I got a good start, focused on hitting my marks, and despite the safety car, managed the race from there. The championship is very close, so every point matters, and I’m grateful to the team for giving me a car capable of fighting at the front.”

Fourie also produced his most encouraging showing of the weekend in Race 2. After a difficult opening race and another incident, the rookie settled into a better rhythm and came agonisingly close to opening his championship account. He crossed the line ninth, narrowly missing out on points, with only the top eight classified finishers scoring.

“It was a tough weekend, but there are definitely positives to take from it,” said Fourie. “Race 1 didn’t go the way I hoped and once I dropped back it was difficult to recover. In Race 2, I felt more comfortable and came really close to scoring my first points. It is frustrating to miss out by one position, but I’m learning every time I get in the car, and I know the points will come if I keep improving.”

For Corsa dei Gemelli, the Zwartkops weekend once again demonstrated the team’s growing presence in the Investchem MSA4 Championship. Bezuidenhout’s third win of the campaign keeps the title fight finely balanced, while Fourie’s progression continues to underline the rookie’s development as he edges closer to his first points finish.

With the season now approaching a crucial phase, CDG will take confidence from another competitive weekend as the team continues its push at both ends of the grid — fighting for victories with Bezuidenhout and building toward a breakthrough result with Fourie.
