Corsa dei Gemelli Targets Strong Start at Killarney Season Opener

The 2026 Investchem MSA4 Championship commences this weekend as the national single-seater series heads to the Killarney International Raceway in Cape Town for the opening round of the season. For Corsa dei Gemelli, the objective is clear: begin the new campaign with a strong and consistent performance as the championship embarks on its second season.

The Italian-inspired outfit enters the weekend with momentum following an impressive inaugural campaign in 2025, where Mikel Bezuidenhout finished as the championship runner-up after a closely fought title battle that went down to the final round. With a year of MSA4 experience under his belt, Bezuidenhout returns as the spearhead of the team and one of the drivers expected to challenge at the front of the field once again.

The 17-year-old will arrive at Killarney with particularly fond memories of the Western Cape circuit. At the 2025 event, Bezuidenhout delivered a dominant performance, claiming pole position and victories in both races, establishing himself as one of the standout performers of the season.

Replicating that form will be the immediate objective as the new season begins.

“Starting the championship strongly is always important,” Bezuidenhout explains. “Killarney treated us well last season, and the team has worked hard over the off-season. The goal is to be competitive from the start and build momentum through the weekend.”

Alongside the experienced Bezuidenhout, Corsa dei Gemelli welcomes Wianko Fourie, who makes both his team and championship debut this weekend. The 19-year-old from Vredefort in the Free State arrives in the series with a solid karting pedigree, including a vice-championship finish in the F400 Sprint African Cup Championship during his time competing in four-stroke karting.

For Fourie, the opening round will largely be about learning and adapting to the demands of single-seater racing. The transition from karting to the turbocharged Volkswagen power unit used in the MSA4 cars presents a significant step up in both performance and technical complexity.

The fast and flowing 3.2-kilometre Killarney circuit is known for its blend of high-speed corners and technical sections, placing a premium on driver confidence and precision. As such, Fourie will focus on gaining mileage and drawing on his teammate's experience as he builds familiarity with the car and the circuit.

“Everything will be new this weekend,” Fourie says. “The cars are very different from what I’ve raced before, but I’m excited for the challenge. Having someone like Mikel in the team is a huge advantage because I can learn from his experience and gradually build my pace.”

The weekend schedule provides ample track time for both drivers to settle into their rhythm. Friday will feature a full day of practice, allowing teams to refine their setups and drivers to gain valuable seat time ahead of the competitive sessions.

Saturday morning will see the grid decided during qualifying, where every fraction of a second could prove decisive around the fast Killarney layout. From there, the drivers will contest two ten-lap races, with the combined results determining the round winner.

For Corsa dei Gemelli, the focus will be on consistency, teamwork, and building a solid points foundation at the start of what promises to be another competitive season in the Investchem MSA4 Championship.

With Bezuidenhout aiming to return to the front and Fourie eager to make a strong first impression, the team heads to Cape Town determined to begin its 2026 campaign on a positive note.
