Luhan de Wet completed his rookie Mini MAX domestic season with a recovery from the back of the grid at Formula-K Raceway in Benoni on Saturday, 31 October. The OMP/Motorsport Fanatix™ ambassador finished tenth overall in the sixth and final round of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships, bringing his local campaign to a close ahead of the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF) in Portugal.
An underweight exclusion in qualifying left Luhan facing an 18th-place start for the opening race. He responded by gaining seven positions over the six laps to finish 11th, beginning the task of recovering from the morning setback.
Luhan moved into the top ten in Heat 2, which was red-flagged after four laps. He finished tenth, before making further progress in the third race with a seventh-place finish. A second consecutive seventh in the final heat completed his day.
The Formula-K finale closed a first Mini MAX season that included a third in the 2026 South African Rotax MAX Challenge standings. Having stepped up as the 2025 National Micro MAX Champion, Luhan also claimed the Mini MAX Africa Open title at Zwartkops, securing his place in Team South Africa for the Grand Finals.
That Africa Open victory remains a highlight of his rookie campaign. Starting ninth in the final, Luhan recovered through the field and retook the lead at the final corner to book his second consecutive Grand Finals appearance.
With his domestic racing complete, Luhan now turns his attention to the Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão. The 2026 RMCGF takes place from 7 to 14 November, with on-track activity beginning on 9 November, as he prepares to represent South Africa in Mini MAX.
