Max Boshoff Claims Back-to-Back ROK National Podiums at Formula-K

Max Boshoff continued his strong run of form with two overall podium finishes during Rounds 5 and 6 of the South African National ROK Karting Championship at Formula-K Raceway.

It was Max’s second consecutive national weekend after competing in the Africa Open and third round of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge at Zwartkops Kart Raceway. There, in only his second Junior MAX appearance, he narrowly missed out on the Africa Open title.

Just days later, he was back in his more familiar OK-Junior kart for another demanding double-header. Despite the quick turnaround and the adjustment between two very different karting categories, Max was immediately on the pace.

Saturday’s fifth national round began with an excellent qualifying performance. Max placed his Kokoro Racing Academy-prepared kart on the front row of the grid, missing pole position by only 0.058 seconds.

He briefly lost second place at the start of the opening heat but quickly recovered the position and settled into the leading group. Max remained composed under pressure and crossed the line as runner-up, securing his first podium finish of the weekend.

Starting fifth for Heat 2, he wasted little time moving forward. Max climbed to fourth during the opening exchanges before taking third, where he remained until the chequered flag. He also set the fastest lap of the race, underlining the pace he had shown throughout the day.

Max started the final heat from pole position, although the tightly packed field shuffled him back during a frantic opening lap. With very little separating the front-runners, he remained part of the lead battle and finished fifth.

His second, third and fifth-place results earned him third overall for Round 5.

Sunday brought a fresh qualifying session for Round 6, and Max again came within a fraction of pole position. His best lap was just 0.030 seconds slower than the pole setter, giving him a second consecutive front-row start.

Max made an excellent start to the opening heat and completed the first lap in the lead. Positions changed repeatedly in a closely fought race, but he remained among the front-runners and eventually finished third.

A seventh-place starting position made Heat 2 more challenging, but Max worked his way steadily through the field to finish fourth.

Starting sixth in the final heat, Max produced another measured drive through the pack. He moved into third and held the position to the finish, adding another podium result to an already consistent weekend.

Finishes of third, fourth and third gave Max a solid haul of points and third overall for Round 6. Across the two national rounds, he recorded six top-five finishes, four heat podiums, two front-row qualifying performances and back-to-back overall podiums.

Although his first national OK-Junior victory of the season remained just out of reach, Max once again showed that he has the pace and consistency to compete at the front of the class. After two demanding national weekends in succession, he leaves Formula-K with another strong points haul and valuable momentum.

Max now turns his attention to the FIA Karting Arrive & Drive European Championship at Autodrom Słomczyn in Poland from 17–19 July. For Max, it will be another important chance to measure himself against international opposition on the European stage.
