Max Boshoff Targets RMCGF Ticket at Zwartkops Africa Open
Max Boshoff heads to Zwartkops Kart Raceway this weekend with a clear objective: to stake his claim for a coveted ticket to the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Portugal.
The Cape Town karter will make his first South African Rotax MAX Challenge and Africa Open appearance as a Junior MAX driver, with the high-profile event offering one of the most important opportunities of the season to secure international qualification.
Boshoff arrives in Pretoria fresh from a stint in the United Kingdom, where he competed as part of the Champions of the Future Academy Programme. That international experience adds valuable preparation as he shifts focus to Rotax competition, having spent much of his 2026 campaign racing in the ROK Cup OK-Junior category.
While this weekend marks his first national outing in Junior MAX, Boshoff has already had a taste of the class during a WPMC regional event earlier this season. Even so, the step up to the national level, with an RMCGF ticket on the line, raises the stakes significantly.
The Junior MAX field is expected to be highly competitive, making adaptability and consistency key factors. Boshoff has built a reputation for quickly adjusting to new machinery and racing environments, qualities that will be essential as he looks to position himself among the front-runners in the fight for international qualification.
The combined South African Rotax MAX Challenge and Africa Open format adds further intensity to the weekend. Practice sessions on Thursday will be followed by qualifying and Heat 1 on Friday, before Heats 2 and 3 conclude the national round on Saturday. A fourth and final heat will then determine the Africa Open results and play a crucial role in deciding who earns the sought-after tickets to Portugal.
For Boshoff, the Zwartkops event also marks the start of a demanding three-week racing stretch, making a strong and consistent performance even more important.
With international experience behind him and a major prize ahead of him, Max Boshoff heads into his Junior MAX debut focused on one goal, securing his place on the grid at the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals.
