Robinson Shows Pace Despite Mixed Race Results

South African racer Tyler Robinson returned to local competition at Zwartkops Raceway on 17 October, securing fourth and seventh-place finishes in the SATC SupaCup category during the final round of the 2026 National Extreme Festival. The 18-year-old, who has been gaining valuable international experience in the German Polo Cup, finished sixth overall following two competitive races.

Having spent much of her recent racing programme adapting to European circuits and left-hand-drive machinery, Robinson was back behind the wheel of her familiar South African VW SupaPolo for the weekend.

Friday's practice sessions provided an encouraging start for the AF Fans-backed driver. Robinson was fourth quickest in the opening session before improving to third in Practice 2. She continued her progression in the afternoon's final session, recording the second-fastest SupaCup time behind Jason Loosemore.

Saturday morning's qualifying session saw Robinson secure fifth on the SupaCup grid, with Loosemore claiming pole position ahead of Judd Bertholdt, Niko Zafiris and Rory Atkinson.

Starting the opening 10-lap race from fifth in class, Robinson worked her way into fourth position. She crossed the finish line behind Loosemore, Atkinson and Bertholdt, holding off Mo Karodia by less than half a second to secure a solid result.

The second race presented a different challenge, with the grid determined by the opening race's fastest laps. Robinson lined up sixth in the SupaCup field for the 11-lap contest.

Despite her efforts, Robinson was unable to repeat her opening-race result, eventually crossing the line seventh in class, behind Paulo Loureiro and ahead of Rick Loureiro.

With fourth and seventh-place finishes, Robinson was classified sixth overall in the SupaCup category for the weekend.

Although the race results did not fully reflect the pace she had demonstrated during Friday's practice sessions, the Zwartkops outing provided Robinson with another opportunity to gain competitive mileage on home soil.

Her 2026 campaign has presented a demanding challenge, balancing her final year of school with her international racing ambitions. Competing in the German Polo Cup has required her to adapt to a different racing environment, unfamiliar circuits and a left-hand-drive Volkswagen Polo GTI.

The experience gained from competing in both South Africa and Europe continues to form an important part of Robinson's development as she works towards establishing herself on the international motorsport stage.
