Alonzo Secures Sixth in Shortened Zwartkops Round

Alonzo De Oliveira endured a challenging but productive fifth round of the 2026 Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championship at Zwartkops Kart Raceway on Saturday, securing sixth overall in Micro MAX after the final heat was cancelled due to safety concerns.

The Micro MAX rookie and OMP/Motorsport Fanatix™ brand ambassador faced a competitive 12-driver field and qualified seventh for the opening race.

Alonzo made progress in the opening heat, working his way forward to secure fifth place and a useful haul of championship points.

Starting seventh again for Heat 2, Alonzo remained in the thick of the midfield battle throughout the race. He eventually crossed the line sixth, adding another solid result to his afternoon.

The scheduled third and final heat did not take place after concerns developed over the condition of the circuit, with the track surface breaking up and officials cancelling the race on safety grounds. With only the first two heats counting towards the day's classification, Alonzo was ranked sixth overall.

While the shortened programme denied Alonzo another chance to improve his overall position, the Johannesburg youngster gained valuable racing experience during his first season in the highly competitive Micro MAX category.

He will now turn his attention towards the final round of the Northern Regions championship on 31 October as he looks to close out his rookie Micro MAX season on a strong note.
