Berlin Robinson Shows Strong Pace During Tough Aldo Scribante Weekend

Berlin Robinson was back in Astron Energy Polo Cup action this past weekend as Round 4 of the championship took place at the Aldo Scribante Racetrack in Gqeberha.

The weekend was a special one for Volkswagen South Africa, with the manufacturer celebrating its 75th anniversary at a circuit many regard as the home of Volkswagen Motorsport. It also posed another tough test for the Polo Cup field, with Aldo Scribante’s fast, technical layout leaving little room for error.

For Berlin, the weekend started on a very positive note. The Fantech-backed driver put in her best qualifying performance of the season, placing eighth overall on Friday afternoon. In a field where the gaps were once again incredibly close, it was a strong showing and a clear sign of the progress she has been making in her rookie season.

Sadly, Race 1 did not go her way. After the promise shown in qualifying, Berlin’s race ended early, leaving her with a DNF and no real chance to turn that pace into a result. It was a frustrating blow, especially after starting the weekend so well.

She regrouped for Race 2 and focused on bringing the car home. In another closely fought race, Berlin kept her head down, completed the full 10-lap distance and crossed the line in 12th place.

Although the results did not quite reflect the speed she showed earlier in the weekend, there were still plenty of positives to take from Aldo Scribante. Berlin continues to find her feet in one of South Africa’s toughest one-make championships after stepping up from the Volkswagen Rookie Cup in 2025.

She also continues to fly the flag for women in motorsport, following in the footsteps of her sister, Tyler, who spent several seasons in Polo Cup before moving into the SupaCup class of the South African Touring Cars and now competes in Germany.

“It was definitely a weekend of mixed emotions,” said Berlin. “Qualifying was a big positive for me, and to start inside the top 10 showed that we are moving in the right direction. Race 1 was disappointing because we never got the chance to turn that pace into a result, but I had to put that behind me and focus on Race 2. I’m glad we finished the second race and gained more experience. Polo Cup is tough, but every weekend is teaching me something.”

With Round 4 now done, Berlin will take the positives from her strongest qualifying performance of the season and continue building as her rookie Polo Cup campaign moves into its second half.
