Christopher Tait Breaks Through with Maiden Polo Cup Podium at Aldo Scribante

Christopher Tait delivered the strongest performance of his Astron Energy Polo Cup season to date, claiming his maiden podium during Round 4 at Aldo Scribante Racetrack, Gqeberha, on a landmark weekend for Volkswagen South Africa, as the brand celebrated its 75th anniversary.

For the 2025 VW Rookie Cup Champion, the weekend marked an important breakthrough after a challenging start to his rookie Polo Cup campaign. Having shown flashes of pace in the opening rounds, Tait put together his most complete showing yet in the Eastern Cape, proving that he has the speed and racecraft to challenge the more experienced drivers at the front of the field.

The Volkswagen Motorsport driver laid the foundation for his weekend with a strong qualifying performance on Friday evening. It was a session that immediately signalled his intent and placed him in a position to fight among the frontrunners.

Saturday morning, however, brought an early setback when Tait was informed that he would start from the back of the grid due to a technical infringement. Despite the disappointment, the Johannesburg teenager refused to let it derail his weekend. Instead, he produced a determined recovery drive, working his way through the field to secure a top-eight finish in Race 1.

That fightback proved to be the turning point.

With confidence building and momentum on his side, Tait returned for Race 2 with even greater determination. He delivered a composed and mature performance, racing at the sharp end of the field before crossing the line in second place to secure his first podium in the Astron Energy Polo Cup.

His combined results also saw him classified fourth overall for the round, making it his best result of the season so far.

Reflecting on the weekend, Tait said: “Firstly, a big thank you to Volkswagen Motorsport South Africa for their continued support, and congratulations to them on celebrating 75 years. It’s an incredible milestone to be part of. This result has really put a spring in my step. After a tough start to the season, it feels great to finally get a podium and put the disappointment of the opening rounds behind me.”

For Tait, the Aldo Scribante weekend was more than just a strong result. It was confirmation of the progress made during the first half of the season and a clear sign that the rookie is beginning to find his feet in one of South Africa’s most competitive one-make racing championships.

After several difficult rounds, the breakthrough at Aldo Scribante will provide a major confidence boost as Tait looks to build on his maiden podium and carry that momentum into the next round of the championship.
