Campos Targets Another Strong Aldo Scribante Result

Keegan Campos will make an earlier-than-expected return to Aldo Scribante Racetrack when the South African Touring Cars contest the fifth round of the championship on 14–15 August.

The National Extreme Festival was originally scheduled to visit the East London Grand Prix Circuit. However, the event was relocated to Gqeberha after the required safety upgrades at the historic East London venue could not be completed and verified in time.

Although Campos had been looking forward to racing at East London, the change brings the SATC field back to a circuit where he showed strong pace during the previous round in June.

On that occasion, the Johannesburg driver qualified third before taking an impressive runner-up finish in the opening race. He was again involved in the podium battle during the reverse-grid encounter, climbing to third before a move around the outside of Turn 1 ended in a spin. Campos recovered to finish sixth, placing fourth overall for the day.

Returning to the same venue less than two months later provides Campos and the Fast Developments team with valuable recent information on the BMW 128ti. The car’s setup, tyre performance and behaviour around the tight Gqeberha circuit are all still fresh, providing the team with a solid starting point for the weekend.

It has already been an encouraging campaign for Campos despite missing the opening round in Cape Town. He announced his return with a victory at Red Star Raceway before adding another podium at Zwartkops and finishing second at Aldo Scribante.

With only three rounds remaining, every qualifying position and championship point will carry greater importance. Campos has repeatedly demonstrated that he has the speed to challenge the leading group, but converting that pace into two complete results will be the priority when racing resumes.

“I was looking forward to racing at East London. It’s a special circuit and driving throught the bowl packed with spectators is unique to SA motorsport. But returning to Aldo gives us a chance to build on what we achieved there in June,” Campos said. “We showed good pace throughout that weekend, and the team now has recent data to work from. The goal is to improve the car further, fight at the front in both races and come away with a strong haul of points.”

The action gets underway on Friday with practice, while qualifying and two races will conclude the weekend.
