Corsa Dei Gemelli Targets Championship Lead as MSA4 Returns to Aldo Scribante
Corsa dei Gemelli will return to the Aldo Scribante Racetrack in Gqeberha next weekend for the fifth round of the 2026 Investchem MSA4 Championship, with both the title fight and the team’s development campaign entering a crucial stage.
The National Extreme Festival was originally scheduled to visit the historic East London Grand Prix Circuit. However, Motorsport South Africa relocated the event after the required safety upgrades could not be completed and verified in time.
The change means the championship will stage consecutive rounds at Aldo Scribante, giving the Eastern Cape circuit a second national event while presenting teams with the rare opportunity to return to a circuit they raced at less than two months ago.
For Corsa dei Gemelli, that familiarity could prove valuable. The team leaves for Gqeberha with recent setup information, tyre data and a clearer understanding of how its MSA4 cars respond to the circuit’s technical demands. Conditions may differ from those experienced in June, but the existing baseline should allow the team to begin the weekend from a stronger position.
Mikel Bezuidenhout arrives firmly in contention for the national title. The 18-year-old has recorded four victories and seven podium finishes from the opening eight races, building a campaign defined by both outright pace and consistency.
Bezuidenhout began the season with a commanding double victory at Killarney International Raceway. He followed that with second place in the opening Red Star Raceway encounter, although a post-race penalty dropped him to eighth in Race 2.
He returned to the podium in both races at Zwartkops, finishing second in the opener before claiming his third win of the year. At the previous Aldo Scribante round, contact left him without a front wing during Race 1, but he still recovered to finish third. With the car repaired, he responded by winning Race 2 and securing the overall honours.
Those results have placed Bezuidenhout second in the provisional championship standings, only three behind leader Aqil Alibhai. The two title rivals have four wins apiece, leaving little room for error as the season reaches its final three rounds.
On the other side of the garage, Wianko Fourie continues to make measurable progress during his rookie MSA4 campaign.
Fourie’s best result improved from 10th at the Killarney season opener to ninth at Red Star. He matched that ninth-place finish at Zwartkops before delivering his strongest showing of the season at Aldo Scribante, where he qualified seventh and finished Race 1 in eighth position.
Fourie scored points at each of the previous two rounds. More importantly, his improving qualifying pace and growing confidence demonstrate that he is becoming increasingly comfortable in the car and better equipped to compete in the midfield.
Returning to Aldo offers Fourie the opportunity to build directly on his best weekend of the season. The circuit is still fresh in his mind, while the experience gained during June should help him approach practice with clearer references and a stronger understanding of what the car requires.
With three rounds remaining, the championship remains wide open. Corsa dei Gemelli’s immediate objective is to maximise the advantage of its recent Aldo experience and leave Gqeberha at the head of the standings before the championship travels to Killarney for September’s penultimate round.
The margins at the front have been small throughout the season, and returning to familiar ground does not guarantee success. It does, however, give Corsa dei Gemelli valuable information to work with as Bezuidenhout continues his title challenge and Fourie targets the next step in his development.
The action gets underway on Friday with practice followed by qualifying and two races on Saturday.
