Corsa dei Gemelli Wins, Keeps Title Fight Alive at Aldo Scribante

Corsa dei Gemelli’s Investchem MSA4 Championship campaign continued at Aldo Scribante Racetrack this past weekend, with the technical Eastern Cape circuit hosting another important chapter in the 2026 title fight.

The team arrived in Gqeberha with a revised line-up after Khanya Mahanjana was unable to attend the event due to a family commitment. In his place, John-Henri Vaughan stepped into the team’s Formula Ford Kent entry, making his first appearance in the colours of Corsa dei Gemelli.

For Mikel Bezuidenhout, the focus remained firmly on the championship battle. The young title contender wasted little time making his intentions clear, topping qualifying to secure pole position. It was an ideal start to the weekend and another reminder of the pace he has carried throughout the season.

Race 1, however, did not unfold without drama. Contact during the race left Mikel without his front wing, compromising the balance and handling of his MSA4 car around a circuit where precision and confidence are critical. Despite the setback, he kept his race together and brought the car home in third place, banking valuable points on a day where the result could easily have slipped away.

With the damage repaired and the focus reset, Mikel responded in the best possible way in Race 2. Starting from the front, he controlled the race and converted his pace into victory, also setting the fastest lap. The result secured him the overall win for the weekend and ensured that his championship challenge remained firmly on track heading into the second half of the season.

For Wianko Fourie, it proved to be a more challenging weekend. After qualifying seventh, he worked hard to stay in the mix during Race 1 and came away with eighth place and his first championship point. Race 2, however, brought further frustration and prevented him from turning the weekend into the result he had wanted. Still, the experience gained at one of South Africa’s most technical circuits will be valuable as he continues building consistency and confidence in the series.

Vaughan, meanwhile, made a strong impression in difficult circumstances. Thrown into the team’s Formula Ford Kent entry at short notice, he approached the weekend with maturity and adapted well to both the car and the demands of Aldo Scribante. Although the final results did not reflect the effort he put in, his pace and composure gave the team plenty of positives to take from his debut outing.

Team Principal Jean Bezuidenhout was pleased with the way the team handled a demanding weekend.

“It was not the easiest weekend for us, but I am proud of the way everyone responded,” said Bezuidenhout. “Mikel showed why he is in this championship fight. To lose a front wing in Race 1 and still bring home good points took maturity, and then to come back and win Race 2 was exactly the response we needed. Wianko had a tougher weekend, but these are the weekends where drivers learn the most. John-Henri also did a very good job stepping in at short notice. He approached it professionally, and there were plenty of positives for us to take from his debut with the team.”

With the Aldo Scribante weekend complete, Corsa dei Gemelli leaves the Eastern Cape with Mikel still firmly in the title conversation, Wianko having gained more important mileage, and Vaughan having delivered a promising first appearance for the team’s Formula Ford Kent programme.

All results remain provisional pending incident and technical reports.
