Van Rooyen Fights Back to Finish Second at Aldo Scribante

Michael van Rooyen left Aldo Scribante Racetrack with a solid haul of points after finishing second overall in Round 4 of the South African Touring Cars Championship.

The weekend didn’t start perfectly for the TGRSA driver, who went into qualifying a few tenths off the pace of the frontrunners. Still, Van Rooyen kept himself in the fight and made sure he was never far from the podium battle.

In Race 1, he pushed hard in a tightly contested front group but had to settle for fourth, narrowly missing out on a podium finish. Race 2, however, saw him hit back with a determined drive to second place, giving him the result he needed to secure runner-up honours for the round.

The points could prove important as the championship now heads to the fast and unforgiving East London Grand Prix Circuit.

“It wasn’t the easiest weekend, but we kept fighting and came away with good points,” said Van Rooyen. “We were just missing a little bit early on, but the team never stopped working and gave me a car I could race with. A big thank you to everyone at TGRSA for their effort this weekend. We’ll take the positives and keep pushing for East London.”

All results remain provisional.
