Mixed Aldo Weekend Still Yields Strong Points for Campos
Keegan Campos put in another strong showing at Aldo Scribante Racetrack this past weekend, as the South African Touring Cars Championship made its first Eastern Cape stop of the season in Gqeberha for Round 4 of the championship.
The Eastern Cape circuit has been a happy hunting ground for Campos in the past, and the Johannesburg driver once again looked comfortable from the outset. Behind the wheel of the Fast Developments-prepared BMW, Campos qualified third on Saturday morning, putting himself in a strong position for the opening race.
He made the most of it, staying in the fight at the front and bringing the car home in second place. It was a confident and controlled drive from Campos, who showed good pace throughout and underlined why Aldo Scribante remains one of his favourite circuits on the calendar.
Race 2 looked set to deliver another strong result. Campos was again in the podium battle early on, pushing hard in the opening stages. But while trying to make a move around the outside into Turn 1, he lost the car and spun out of contention. Although the incident dropped him down the order, Campos was able to rejoin and continue. From there, he recovered to finish sixth, banking important points on a day that could easily have ended with a non-finish.
With the results still provisional, Campos leaves Aldo Scribante with a solid points haul and another reminder that he has the pace to fight at the sharp end of the South African Touring Cars field.
