De Wet Secures Vereeniging Runner-Up Finish

Luhan de Wet delivered two runner-up finishes on his way to second overall in Mini MAX during Saturday’s fourth round of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championship at GT Raceway in Vereeniging. The OMP/Motorsport Fanatix™ ambassador produced another competitive performance against a strong regional field.

Luhan qualified fifth before making steady progress during the opening heat. He worked his way through the leading group to finish second, securing his first podium of the day.

Starting fourth in Heat 2, Luhan again raced towards the front and crossed the line in third place. A five-second nose-cone penalty subsequently dropped him to eighth in the final classification, costing him valuable points towards the overall result.

Luhan started the final heat from third and quickly joined the fight for the lead. He briefly moved into first place before completing the heat in second, earning another strong points haul.

Results of second, eighth and second gave Luhan 89 points and secured the second step of the overall podium.

“It was a positive day, and I’m happy to finish second overall. We had the pace to race at the front, and I enjoyed the battle in the final heat. The penalty in Heat 2 was disappointing, but we recovered well and ended the day with another strong result. With another regional podium secured, Luhan will turn his attention to the remaining rounds of the Northern Regions championship as he looks to finish his rookie Mini MAX season strongly.
