De Wet Targets Strong Formula-K Return in Regional Rotax Battle

Following a stop-start opening to the 2026 season, Luhan de Wet returns to action this weekend as the Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy driver prepares for Round 2 of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championship at Formula-K Raceway. The talented youngster, now competing as a rookie in the fiercely competitive Mini MAX category, heads into the weekend eager to reignite his championship challenge after a frustrating opening regional round at Zwartkops earlier this year.

Luhan, who is also an OMP ambassador, returns to a circuit where he enjoyed considerable success in the Micro MAX ranks. The Formula-K circuit has previously proven to suit his aggressive yet calculated driving style, and the double national karting champion will be hoping that familiarity can help him claw back valuable championship points this weekend.

Although the 2026 season has thus far consisted of only one national and one regional event, the limited track time has done little to dampen the young racer's motivation. Instead, the enforced breaks have only increased his hunger to get back behind the wheel and challenge at the front of the Mini MAX field.

“I'm really excited to get back in the kart this weekend,” explained Luhan. “Formula-K has always been one of my favourite tracks and I've had some really good results there in the past. The first regional round didn’t go the way we wanted, but we learned a lot and I feel ready to fight back. The championship is still long, and my goal is to score strong points and close the gap to the leaders.”

The Formula-K event weekend will commence with a full day of practice on Friday, allowing teams and drivers valuable setup time ahead of Saturday’s competitive action. Saturday’s programme will feature qualifying, followed by three race heats expected to deliver the close, intense racing synonymous with Rotax competition in the Northern Regions.

“We've worked hard since the last race and I’m feeling confident heading into the weekend,” added Luhan. “The competition in Mini MAX is very tough this year, but that motivates me even more. A big thank you to Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy, my family, my team and everyone supporting me throughout the season.”
