De Wet Targets Strong Start in Mini MAX National Debut
Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy's Luhan de Wet heads to the Killarney Kart Circuit this weekend to make his highly anticipated national Mini MAX debut, marking the next step in an already decorated young career. At just 10 years old, Luhan transitions into a new class following a dominant 2025 season that saw him crowned South African Micro MAX national champion and represent the country on the world stage at the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Bahrain.
The OMP/Motorsport Fanatix™ ambassador now faces a fresh challenge as he steps up into the ultra-competitive Mini MAX category, where increased pace, tighter competition, and strategic racecraft will all come into play. Having already shown his ability to adapt under pressure, as evidenced by his commanding performances at the national level and his composure in changing conditions, Luhan arrives in Cape Town with both confidence and momentum on his side.
Killarney is no unfamiliar territory for the young driver. His previous outings at the circuit produced impressive performances, including a 2025 clean sweep of victories in Micro MAX, stamping his authority early in the 2025 championship. That experience, combined with valuable pre-event preparation, positions him well as he embarks on this new chapter.
The move to Mini MAX represents more than just a class change; it is a progression into a field packed with experienced competitors who have already established themselves at this level. For Luhan, the objective will be clear: quickly find his rhythm, remain in contention at the front, and build a foundation for a sustained national campaign.
Reflecting ahead of the weekend, Luhan said:
"I’m really excited to start my Mini MAX journey at Killarney. It’s a new challenge for me, but I’ve been working hard with my team to prepare. The competition is strong, and I know it won’t be easy, but I’m ready to give it my best and learn as much as I can. Thank you to everyone who supports me, I can’t wait to get out on track."
With proven race-winning pedigree, international exposure, and the backing of a strong support structure, Luhan de Wet enters the weekend as one of the most exciting prospects to watch. His debut in Mini MAX signals the beginning of what could be another defining season in his rapidly rising motorsport journey.
