From Bambino King to Micro MAX Contender, Alonzo Begins New Chapter
Alonzo De Oliveira returns to Cape Town this weekend with momentum firmly on his side as he embarks on the next chapter of his karting career. Fresh off a historic 2025 season that saw Alonzo crowned national, regional, and African Open Bambino Champion, the Johannesburg-based driver now steps up into the highly competitive Micro MAX category. The move marks a significant progression, placing him against a field of more experienced competitors as he adapts to faster machinery and a more demanding racing environment.
Representing the Stretto Racing stable, Alonzo arrives at Killarney with confidence already established in 2026. A commanding performance in the Northern Regions regional round earlier this season underlines both his pace and his ability to transition quickly into new challenges. That early success has laid a solid foundation heading into his Micro MAX national debut at a circuit where he has previously shown resilience and racecraft under pressure.
The step up, however, is not without its challenges. Micro MAX introduces a higher level of intensity, with tighter competition and more experienced drivers. For Alonzo, the weekend will be as much about learning and adaptation as it is about results. His ability to extract performance, manage race situations, and continue his development curve will be key indicators of his long-term trajectory in the class.
With the backing of his team, sponsors, and his recent inclusion in the OMP/Motorsport Fanatix ambassador programme, Alonzo enters the weekend with both expectation and opportunity.
"This is a big step for me, and I’m really excited to take it on. The Micro MAX class is very competitive, and I know I’ll be racing against more experienced drivers, but I feel ready. We’ve had a strong start to the season, and I want to keep learning, keep improving, and push for the best results possible. A big thank you to my team and everyone supporting me."
As the lights go out in Cape Town, all eyes will be on how quickly Alonzo can translate his championship-winning form into Micro MAX, a challenge that could define the next phase of his rapidly rising career.
Alonzo extends his thanks to Amigo Portugueses, Hercules Foods & Sauces, HPP, SY Wholesale Butchery, OMP Racing and Motorsport Fanatix.
