From GR Cup Glory to SupaCup Showdown – Dawie Targets Gqeberha Success
Dawie van der Merwe will continue his debut season in the South African Touring Cars (SATC) SupaCup as the championship heads to Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) for Round 3 on 9 - 10 May. The action shifts to Aldo Scribante Racetrack, a tight and technical coastal circuit that demands precision and confidence from the drivers.
Representing Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa (TGRSA) and Fast Developments, the talented driver from Mbombela, Mpumalanga, has already impressed in his first two SupaCup outings. After a strong showing at Killarney, Cape Town and a determined performance at Kyalami, Midrand, Dawie now returns to a circuit where he’s had plenty of success.
Aldo Scribante is familiar territory for the 23-year-old, who previously competed at the venue in both the Polo and TGRSA GR Cup. It was his standout 2024 season in the GR Cup, including victories at circuits like Aldo Scribante, that ultimately earned him his place on the SupaCup grid with TGRSA this year.
With his growing confidence in the SupaStarlet and prior knowledge of the Eastern Cape circuit, Dawie enters Round 3 aiming to push further up the order. As the season heads towards its midpoint, consistency and steady progress remain his focus in one of South Africa’s most competitive national championships.
All eyes will be on Gqeberha for another thrilling SupaCup weekend, and Dawie vd Merwe is more than ready to make it count.
