Gianna Pascoal to Represent Africa in FIA Karting Academy Opener

South African karting standout Gianna Pascoal will represent not just her country, but the entire African continent, when she lines up at the Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, Portugal, this weekend for the opening round of the inaugural FIA Karting Academy Trophy—Seniors.

Selected as the continent’s sole representative, Gianna joins a grid of 36 elite drivers aged 14 to 16. This senior version of the successful Junior Academy program marks a pivotal step forward in the FIA’s commitment to cultivating talent globally, with equal equipment supplied to all competitors and a focus on driver skill above all else.

The competition utilises Exprit chassis paired with Vortex engines, both provided by the OTK Kart Group, with equipment allocation determined by a draw. All drivers compete on Maxxis tyres, ensuring parity, while OMP Racing Force supplies racewear and team apparel.

Gianna enters the international campaign on strong form, having recently secured her first overall win and heat victory in the South African Senior MAX category. Backed by the Wesleigh Orr Racing (WORR) team, she carries valuable European experience from the WSK Series and the Champions of the Future Academy Program, positioning her as a true force in the Academy’s debut season.

With additional rounds set for Italy in June and Denmark in August, the Academy Trophy promises a high level of competition and a platform for emerging stars like Gianna to shine on the world stage. Her participation marks a significant milestone for South African motorsport. It serves as a powerful statement for African representation in global karting, particularly for women striving for equality in elite-level competition.
