Haskins Overcomes Adversity to Secure Fifth Place at Aldo Scribante

Johannesburg teenager Chase Haskins demonstrated both pace and steadfastness during the latest round of the Investchem MSA4 Championship at Aldo Scribante Racetrack, bouncing back from a first-lap retirement to secure a hard-earned fifth-place finish.

The rookie delivered an impressive qualifying performance, securing second place on the revised Race 1 grid and earning a front-row start alongside experienced championship contenders.

However, the opening race ended almost immediately for Haskins. He was involved in a racing incident on the first lap and couldn't complete the lap, ending a promising race early.

For the second consecutive visit to Aldo Scribante, the Kokoro Racing Academy crew worked under significant time constraints to repair Haskins’ car. Their efforts ensured that the young driver could return to the circuit for the afternoon’s second race.

Haskins continued to face challenges in Race 2, as further contact bent a wishbone, making the car increasingly difficult to steer. Despite this setback, he remained determined and competed throughout the seven-lap contest.

By managing the compromised car to the finish, Haskins secured a valuable fifth-place result under challenging conditions.

While the final results did not fully reflect the pace demonstrated in qualifying, Haskins’ recovery highlighted his strength and growing maturity during his rookie single-seater campaign. It also underlined the Kokoro Racing Academy team’s commitment, whose efforts once again allowed him to return to the grid after significant adversity.

“It was another challenging weekend, but I am proud that we persevered. Qualifying on the front row demonstrated our pace, so it was disappointing to be involved in an incident on the first lap of Race 1. The team did an outstanding job repairing the car in time for Race 2. After the additional contact, the bent wishbone made the car more difficult to handle, but I pushed as much as possible and was pleased to finish in fifth. I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone at Kokoro Racing Academy for their dedication and persistence.”

The penultimate round of the championship is scheduled for 18-19 September in Cape Town. The preceding week, Haskins will compete in the final two rounds of the National ROK Cup Karting Championship at the Killarney Kart Circuit in Cape Town.
