Max Boshoff Chases Historic Karting Double
Fresh from being crowned the 2025 National Mini ROK Champion at Red Star Raceway, Cape Town’s Max Boshoff will head into this weekend’s Rotax MAX Challenge finale with history firmly in his sights.
The 12-year-old Xtreme Racing Team driver stands on the verge of becoming the first competitor in South African karting history to claim both the Mini ROK and Mini MAX national titles in the same season. Currently tied at the top of the Mini MAX standings, Boshoff faces a winner-takes-all showdown at Zwartkops, where four heats, rather than the usual three, will decide the ultimate champion.
Boshoff’s path to this moment has been one of strength and perseverance. He opened his Rotax campaign in style with a commanding home victory at Killarney, and followed it up with strong performances in Gauteng. However, the most recent Northern Regions competition served as a stark reminder of the challenge ahead, with Max finishing outside the podium places, a result he knows he must improve upon if he hopes to seal the crown.
“Winning the ROK title was an amazing feeling, but the work isn’t done yet,” Max said ahead of the weekend. “To fight for both national titles in one season is something really special. It’s going to be tough, but we’re ready to give it everything.”
The stakes could not be higher. Beyond the prestige of the national championship, the Mini MAX winner will also earn a place on Team South Africa at the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Bahrain, often described as the “Olympics of Karting.”
With temperatures forecast to climb into the 30s and a grid stacked with South Africa’s best, the Zwartkops finale promises a battle of endurance, consistency, and outright speed. Boshoff, already established as one of the country’s brightest young racing talents, is determined to make his mark once again.
