New Season. New Chapter. Tyler Robinson Takes on SupaCup Ahead of German Championship

South African rising star Tyler Robinson will embark on an exciting new chapter in her racing career when she lines up for the opening round of the South African Touring Cars SupaCup Championship at Killarney International Raceway next weekend.

The Cape Town circuit hosts the first round of the seven-round 2026 championship, marking the start of what promises to be an important season for the talented young driver as she continues to establish herself among South Africa’s most competitive touring car racers.

Tyler’s motorsport journey has already been defined by several notable milestones. After making her mark in karting, including representing South Africa internationally, she successfully transitioned to circuit racing, starting out in an INEX Legend before moving to saloon cars. In the competitive VW Challenge Championship (effectively a regional Polo Cup series), she quickly demonstrated the skill that earned her a place in the national VW Polo Cup Championship. Among her standout achievements was becoming the youngest female driver to win a race in the VW Polo Cup, a landmark victory that cemented her reputation as one of the country’s most promising young female talents.

Now entering the SupaCup championship, Tyler steps into one of South Africa’s premier one-make touring car categories. The championship features identical VW Polo GTI race cars that place the emphasis squarely on driver skill, precision and race craft, characteristics that have become hallmarks of Tyler’s driving style.

The 2026 season carries added significance as Tyler also prepares for an international campaign later in the year. She is set to compete in the newly established German Polo Cup, a European championship that will utilise the same SupaCup-based VW Polo GTI platform. The key difference is that German cars are left-hand drive, whereas South African SupaCup cars remain right-hand drive. As a result, the local championship will play an important role in refining her race craft and preparation ahead of her European campaign.

Tyler begins the season at Killarney International Raceway, a circuit she knows well. The fast and flowing Cape Town circuit has delivered mixed fortunes for her in the past, but its combination of long straights and technical corners offers an ideal stage to launch a new season.

With valuable experience already gained through both karting and saloon car racing, Tyler believes the upcoming season represents an important step forward in her career.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the support from everyone who has helped me reach this point. This season marks a new chapter in my racing journey. I’ve been fortunate to gain valuable experience through karting and circuit racing before, and racing in SupaCup this year will play a big role in preparing me for the German championship later in the season. I’m really looking forward to getting the year started in Cape Town.”

As the lights go out on the 2026 SupaCup season, Tyler’s campaign represents more than just another championship entry. It is part of a broader journey that continues to take the young South African driver onto the international stage while building momentum for the next phase of her racing career.

Tyler extends her thanks to AF Fans and Freem for their continued support.
