Red Star Return Offers Christopher Tait a Platform to Progress
Christopher Tait is set to return to the track this weekend, making his second appearance in the Volkswagen Motorsport-backed Polo GTI as the Astron Energy Polo Cup visits Red Star Raceway for the first time in four years.
While the national series makes its long-awaited return to the Mpumalanga circuit, Tait brings a valuable advantage, track familiarity. Having raced at Red Star Raceway in the regional VW Challenge, the 2025 VW Rookie Cup champion already understands the circuit’s nuances and demands.
That experience could prove crucial as he continues his transition into one of South Africa’s most competitive single-make categories. After debuting earlier this season, Tait now shifts his focus to building consistency, sharpening his racecraft, and closing the gap to the established front runners.
“It’s great to be heading back to a track I know well. Red Star is a technical circuit, so having some experience there definitely helps. This weekend, my aim is to keep improving, build on what we learned in the first round, and edge closer to the front of the pack. But I could not do any of it without the backing of Volkswagen Motorsport, King Price Xtreme, Sparco and Sportex.”
Red Star Raceway offers a unique challenge, with its flowing sections, direction changes, and technical braking zones demanding precision and commitment, qualities that will test both rookies and seasoned competitors alike.
For Tait, this weekend marks another important step in his Polo Cup journey, as he looks to turn his Rookie Cup success into strong performances at the national level.
The action gets underway on Friday with three practice sessions, followed by qualifying later in the afternoon. Saturday features two races to determine the weekend's overall winner.
