Corsa Dei Gemelli Steps Up with Expanded Line-Up for Round 2 Red Star Battle
Corsa dei Gemelli, with the assistance of DAW Racing, heads into Round 2 of the Investchem MSA4 Championship with a clear goal. This round marks the long-awaited debut of South Africa’s top single-seater series at the technical Red Star Raceway near Delmas, Mpumalanga.
Red Star Raceway is known for its flowing but demanding layout, offering a unique challenge for both teams and drivers. Built for motorcycle racing, the track’s rhythm sections, direction changes, and technical corners require precision, good car setup, and full driver focus. After four years away from the national calendar, its return brings extra excitement and unpredictability for the weekend.
Leading the way for CDG is championship leader Mikel Bezuidenhout, who impressed with a calm and strategic drive at the season opener in Cape Town. With early momentum, Bezuidenhout enters Round 2 aiming to strengthen and possibly increase his lead in the standings.
“Red Star is a very technical circuit where you have to be precise and disciplined. It’s not just about outright speed; it’s about putting everything together consistently. We had a strong start to the season, and the goal now is to keep building on that and maximise every session,” said Bezuidenhout.
Teammate Wianko Fourie is also making quick progress. He made his circuit racing debut at Killarney, where he faced mechanical problems but improved steadily over the weekend. With more experience now, Round 2 gives the rookie a chance to turn that learning into results.
“After a challenging debut, I managed to understand the car a little better with each lap,” said Fourie. “Now we head to a new circuit, which in itself will be challenging while still trying to get to grips with the MSA4 machinery. It is certainly a steep learning curve, but one I look forward to.”
Backed by Huawei Mobile and MTN Cosmo-Net, and partnered by Sparco South Africa, Corsa dei Gemelli is expanding to a three-car lineup this weekend by adding a Formula Kent entry. Khanya Mahanjana joins the team, bringing experience from karting and Formula SuperVee. His arrival boosts the team’s presence on the grid and highlights CDG’s commitment to developing drivers in different single-seater categories.
“I am nervously excited about my Formula Kent debut,” Mahanjana shared. “I want to thank the team for the warm welcome and for the opportunity to do something I really love. I am truly blessed to be a part of this, and I cannot wait to take to the circuit and live out my childhood dream.”
The weekend schedule is tight and action-packed. Practice sessions start on Friday, giving teams a chance to fine-tune their setups on a track that many haven’t raced on in years. Saturday morning’s qualifying will be crucial, followed by two feature races that will decide the results.
With momentum, a bigger team, and a challenging track ahead, Corsa dei Gemelli enters Round 2 ready to make an impact as the Investchem MSA4 Championship gains more attention in South African motorsport.
