Rookie Haskins Continues Rapid Rise in MSA4

Chase Haskins continued to underline his potential as one of South African motorsport’s emerging talents with another assured performance during Round 2 of the Investchem MSA4 Championship, held as part of the National Extreme Festival at Red Star Raceway this past weekend.

Competing in only his second main circuit event, the 14-year-old Johannesburg driver once again demonstrated a steep learning curve as he went toe-to-toe with far more experienced competitors. Across Friday’s practice sessions, Haskins showed consistent progression, improving his lap times in each outing to comfortably position himself inside the top seven, all while remaining the leading rookie in the field.

Qualifying on Saturday proved to be another step forward. Delivering a composed and competitive lap, Haskins secured seventh on the grid, earning himself a fourth-row start for Race 1.

When the lights went out, the rookie kept his composure through a typically aggressive run into Turn 1, avoiding early contact and maintaining position. From there, Haskins delivered a measured drive, holding firm in seventh place to secure another strong result against a seasoned field.

Race 2 presented a greater challenge. A difficult launch saw Haskins lose two positions in the opening corners, but he quickly regrouped and worked his way back into contention. Settling into a competitive rhythm, he fought to reclaim lost ground before a late-race battle saw him narrowly concede seventh position on the penultimate lap, ultimately crossing the line in eighth.

Despite the slight setback in the final race, the weekend once again highlighted Haskins’ talent, particularly when considering his limited circuit racing experience compared to many of his rivals.

“It’s been another big learning weekend for me,” said Haskins. “We made good progress through practice and qualifying felt really strong. Race 1 was solid, and in Race 2 I just had to fight back after the start. I’m learning every time I’m in the car, and I’m happy with the progress we’re making.”

As the championship continues, Haskins’ ability to consistently run inside the top ten and challenge closer to the front positions firmly positions him as one of the drivers to watch as he builds towards the sharp end of the Investchem MSA4 grid.
