SA’s Ronald Venter Shines at Silverstone as COFTA UK Series Makes History
A historic chapter in global karting unfolded this past weekend as the Champions of the Future Academy Program officially launched its inaugural UK Series at Kart Silverstone, marking the first-ever competitive event held at the newly developed circuit. Among those lining up for this milestone occasion was South Africa’s Ronald Venter, who stepped onto the international stage once again to take on the unknown in the Mini 60 category.
The event represented far more than just another race meeting. With no prior data, no established benchmarks, and a completely new 1,377-metre layout featuring 18 corners, drivers were forced into a pure test of instinct, adaptability, and racecraft. Designed with input from former Formula 1 drivers, the circuit demanded rapid learning, placing a premium on braking precision, grip interpretation, and race intelligence from the very first session.
For Venter, this was not unfamiliar territory. Having already proven his capability in the Champions of the Future Academy Euro Series in 2025, where he delivered an impressive fourth-place finish in the Mini 60 U10 category, the South African arrived in the UK with valuable international experience. However, the transition to a brand-new championship, on a brand-new circuit, against a fresh pool of competitors, presented an entirely different challenge.
Competing in what is the first dedicated UK championship for the Academy Program, Venter was part of a field navigating completely uncharted waters. The absence of historical data and onboard references meant that every session became a learning exercise, with drivers building their understanding corner by corner. Changing weather conditions, a hallmark of Silverstone, added another layer of complexity, underscoring the importance of adaptability throughout the weekend.
Despite the scale of the challenge, Venter delivered a composed and competitive performance. In the Mini U10 category, he secured an impressive fifth-place finish in the final, while also finishing 20th overall, gaining four positions in the decisive race. It was a result that underlined both his racecraft and his ability to adapt under pressure in a completely new environment.
His participation in both the Euro Series and now the UK Series highlights a clear upward trajectory, positioning him among a new generation of drivers gaining exposure at the highest levels of academy karting.
As the Champions of the Future Academy Program establishes its footprint in the UK, this opening round will be remembered as a defining moment, not only for the series itself but for drivers like Ronald Venter, who are helping shape its early narrative.
With three more rounds to follow, the foundations have been laid. For Venter, the focus now shifts to building momentum in a championship that promises to redefine the pathway for young karting talent.
