After Rally Success, Dawie Returns to His Toyota SupaStarlet
The curtain comes down on the 2025 South African Touring Cars SupaCup Championship this weekend at Zwartkops Raceway, where Mbombela businessman Dawie van der Merwe aims to end his season on a high.
Currently sitting fifth in the standings with 98 points, Dawie is eyeing an improvement to fourth overall, with the top three positions now mathematically out of reach.
After making headlines on his rally debut, where he and co-driver Steph Pieterse stunned the off-road fraternity with a class win in a near-stock VW Polo Playa, Dawie is itching to climb back into his Toyota SupaStarlet and return to the intensity of circuit racing.
“Rallying was incredible, but nothing compares to the precision and pace of circuit racing,” Dawie said. “I’m looking forward to ending the season strongly for the team and all our supporters.”
Zwartkops, a circuit that rewards consistency and car control, will provide a fitting battleground for Dawie to wrap up what has been a competitive and growth-filled season in South Africa’s premier one-make tin-top series.
Friday sees three practice sessions before Qualifying on Saturday morning, which precedes two feature races. Tickets are available for sale at the gate, with children under 12 years allowed free entry.
