Bezuidenhout Secures Double Podium for Corsa Dei Gemelli
Corsa dei Gemelli’s Mikel Bezuidenhout strengthened his Investchem MSA4 Championship campaign with two runner-up finishes and second overall at Aldo Scribante Racetrack on Saturday.
Returning to the Gqeberha circuit for the second time this season, Bezuidenhout immediately established himself among the leading contenders. He qualified third for the opening race, while teammate and rookie Wianko Fourie secured 11th place on the grid.
Bezuidenhout made the most of his second-row starting position in Race 1. A measured performance saw him move into second place and remain in contention throughout the 10-lap encounter, eventually taking the chequered flag as runner-up.
Fourie also made forward progress in the opening contest. Starting from 11th, he gained two positions to finish ninth, adding another solid result to his season.
Bezuidenhout continued his impressive form in Race 2. The 18-year-old again crossed the line in second place, completing a consistent double podium for the team. He underlined his pace by setting the fastest lap of the race.
Fourie, who got caught up in an opening lap incident, was forced to retire the car and was unable to take the restart of the race.
With the two races combined, Bezuidenhout secured second place in the overall classification. Fourie was classified 13th overall after completing only the opening race.
“Overall, it was a positive weekend for the team. Mikel raced consistently at the front, secured two second-place finishes and showed his pace with the fastest lap in Race 2. Wianko made good progress in the opening race, so it was disappointing that he could not take the start later in the day. We will take the positives from Aldo Scribante, continue working and focus on finishing the season as strongly as possible,” said Corsa dei Gemelli Team Principal Jean Bezuidenhout.
The double runner-up result gave Bezuidenhout another valuable points haul as the championship enters its decisive closing stages. With two rounds remaining, the championship returns to Cape Town and the Killarney International Raceway over 18-19 September.
