Christopher Tait Crowned 2025 VW Rookie Cup Champion

Zwartkops Raceway played host to a fitting finale this past weekend as 16-year-old Christopher Tait capped off a remarkable debut season in the Volkswagen Rookie Cup by securing the MSA Interprovincial Championship title.

The young star set the tone early, claiming his third pole position of the season before storming to victory in Race 1, marking his fifth win of the campaign. Christopher’s dominant pace was underlined by setting the fastest lap of the race, reinforcing his reputation as one of South Africa’s brightest emerging circuit talents.

Race 2 brought another test of skill and composure. Starting from third on the grid, Christopher wasted no time charging forward, executing a decisive move on his championship rival to move into second place. Once again, he clocked the fastest lap, proving his speed was no fluke. His runner-up finish not only secured a fifth podium for the season but also sealed the championship crown.

For the Grade 10 student, this achievement marks another impressive milestone in an already promising career. No stranger to saloon car competition, Christopher first made his name in the 2024 Northern Regions ATE VW Challenge, where he claimed both the Class C Championship and the Rookie of the Year award.

His stellar Rookie Cup campaign now earns him a deserved promotion, a seat in the 2026 Astron Energy Polo Cup Championship, where he will look to continue his rapid rise through South Africa’s motorsport ranks.

“It’s been an incredible season,” Christopher reflected after being crowned champion. “We worked hard for this moment, and to end my rookie campaign with the title is an amazing feeling. I’m grateful to everyone who supported me and can’t wait for the next chapter in Polo Cup.”
