De Wet Narrowly Misses Out on Regional Micro MAX Victory

Centurion’s young karting star, Luhan de Wet, delivered another strong performance in the 2025 Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championship at Zwartkops Kart Raceway on 16 August, finishing second overall in the Micro MAX class. The Motorsport Fanatix™ ambassador once again showcased his consistency and fighting spirit, coming within just three points of the overall win.

Tight battles at the front of the pack marked the weekend. Luhan opened his account with a solid drive to second place in Heat 1, before bouncing back with a commanding victory in Heat 2, putting himself in prime contention for the overall win. In the deciding final heat, however, he was forced to settle for second, despite applying relentless pressure on championship rival Adriaan Steyn. When the points were tallied, Luhan’s scores of 32-35-32 (99 points) left him just behind Steyn’s 102-point total, underlining just how fiercely competitive the Micro MAX field remains.

Reflecting on the result, Luhan remained positive:

“We fought really hard this weekend, and the pace was there to win. Missing out by just a few points is tough, but I know we’re right where we need to be for the championship and the upcoming final national. A big thank you to my team, my family, and everyone who supports me, we’ll come back even stronger.”

The result consolidates Luhan’s standing at the sharp end of the Northern Regions Micro MAX championship, where he continues to trade blows with Steyn in the race for the 2025 crown. With two rounds still to come, the battle is perfectly poised as the season heads towards its climax.

Luhan races under the Xtreme Racing Team banner, supported by De Wet Automotive Service & Repair Services and proudly representing Motorsport Fanatix™.
