De Wet Targets Return to Winning Form at GT Raceway

Fresh from being crowned the 2026 Mini MAX Africa Open champion, Luhan de Wet heads to GT Raceway in Vereeniging this weekend for the third round of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championship with renewed confidence and a clear objective.

The Africa Open victory not only delivered one of the biggest titles of Luhan’s young career but also secured his place at the 2026 Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Portugal. The result confirmed his ability to perform under pressure, with the OMP ambassador producing a determined drive to victory when the stakes were at their highest.

Attention now returns to the regional championship, where Luhan remains firmly in contention despite a more challenging start to his first Mini MAX campaign. With one victory and one further podium finish from the opening two rounds, the reigning national Micro MAX champion occupies third in the standings, just six points behind the championship leader.

The tight regional standings leave little room for error, but Luhan arrives in Vereeniging carrying momentum from his Africa Open success. As a Mini MAX rookie, he has continued to adapt to the faster and more physically demanding category while demonstrating the racecraft and determination that have already made him a multiple national champion.

GT Raceway will also present a different challenge from the circuits visited earlier in the season. With overtaking opportunities often requiring commitment and precision, qualifying and consistency across the heats will be crucial to Luhan’s ambition of reducing the championship deficit.
